Footballcv.com and FootballCV Academy was the brainchild of Peter Mallinger and Graham Starmer. Both have been involved in the football industry for some years and FootballCV as a company celebrated ten years in 2010.
FootballCV recognised the enormous amount of letters clubs would receive from players, so set up a website for players to register their CV’s including a chance to list their footballing abilities.
Once registered the players details are placed on the website for managers, scouts and coaches to view using the powerful on-line search engine.
The success of the site was immediate but we wanted to do more to help the players. That was when the Trials Days were born.
The first Trials Day in 2001 provided phenomenal interest from players, clubs and the media with Sky Sports featuring the trials. Since the first Trials Day hundreds of players have gone to clubs for further trials, many of whom have now signed contracts. The trials have received media interest from Sky Sports, BBC Radio, Carlton TV, 4-4-2 magazine and many other national newspapers and magazines.
Trials Days and events have been held at the grounds of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United, West Ham United, Reading, Leeds United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Falkirk, Tranmere Rovers, MS Oslo and Leicester City and over a hundred other professional clubs.
And FootballCV has been endorsed by numerous clubs such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United , Manchester City amongst many others.
The company has worked for the previous five years with the PFA and Football League running ‘Exit Trials’ for released pro’s and scholars.
FootballCV has helped hundreds of players at all levels to progress in the game with some notable success stories of players signing professional terms. The highest profile member is Chris Smalling who signed for Manchester United for £10 million in January 2010.
This fairytale story gives hope to many; the young defender struggled to find an academy club at schoolboy level but refused to give up and registered with FootballCV.com as he looked to pursue the career he had always dreamed of.
Since 2005 footballcv.com has worked with the PFA, Football League and Football League Education running trials for released scholars and professionals. Since 2010 the company has worked for Samsung running their’ win a pro’ national competition as featured on BBC’s ‘Football Focus’ and also on ESPN.
In 2008 the Academy team became an FA Charter Standard Club and in 2010 celebrated ten years as the market leader and first UK company to run trials days and a private football academy.
FootballCV has built up a good reputation since 2000. All that experience, expertise, and numerous football contacts were put together into setting up the FootballCV Academy in 2007.
In September 2007 The FootballCV Academy was opened by Aston Villa and England winger Ashley Young.
The FootballCV Academy is the first private football academy in the UK and offers players aged 16-19 years old full-time coaching aimed at producing professional players whilst also providing educational courses.
Each week incorporates intensive football training, together with matches at national youth level and senior men’s reserve level, as well as learning about other aspects of the game including nutrition, sports psychology, specialist goalkeeping coaching and strength & conditioning.
The Academy is of a residential nature with on-site accommodation, meals, student welfare and all transportation issues included and is highly supervised and run to a professional football club and college standard.
The football facilities, now based at Steel Park, include the use of the stadium, a number of top-quality training pitches, an all-weather pitch, study centre, gym, physio room, canteen and indoor facilities and is run by ex-pro players and coaches at Pro Licence and UEFA 'A' level with also many guest speakers from the game passing on invaluable advice.
