Immigration

Immigration control in the UK affects everyone who is not a British subject. The Home Office is the Government department responsible for determining UK immigration policy. Particular rules apply to students who are EU/EEA nationals.

EU/EEA Nationals

European Community law gives EU/EEA nationals the right to live and work in the United Kingdom. There are no restrictions on employment or study. If you want confirmation of your right of residence in the UK you can apply for a Registration Certificate. However, there is no requirement for EU/EEA nationals living in the United Kingdom to apply. The following link explains this in more detail:

www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/applying/eeaeunationals

Non - EU/EEA Nationals

Every Non-EU/EEA national coming to the UK for longer than 6 months must obtain a visa prior to entering the UK. Depending on your nationality you may also have to register your stay with the police. If you need to register, this requirement will be stamped in your passport. You may also need to obtain a visa to visit other countries in Europe.

Student visas

Most international students are admitted to the UK on a student visa. This is usually valid until the completion of the course. To obtain a student visa, you will need to contact your nearest British Embassy, Consulate, or High Commission.

Applying for a UK student visa need not be complicated or time consuming. However, use our resources below and take your time to submit a complete and thorough application. It is worth contacting your local British Diplomatic Mission or visit their website as application procedures vary from country to country. Biometric information will also be required by applicants in all countries by April 2008 as part of the visa application process. This consists of scans of all 10 of your fingers and a full-face digital photograph.

Your visa application will need to demonstrate that:

  • That you have been accepted for and intend to follow a full-time course involving at least 15 hours of organised daytime study each week. Your letter of unconditional acceptance gives you proof of this.
  • That you can meet the cost of your course fees and living expenses. It is useful to know the full cost of your intended study period in the UK. You will be asked to provide bank statements, which should show you or your family’s overall financial circumstances.
  • That you intend to leave the UK at the end of your course. Show that you have spent some time researching your future plans, and that your study in the UK is part of the plan.

As a minimum you will normally need to provide the following:

  • Completed application form VAF1 (non-settlement).
  • Your passport or travel document.
  • Recent good quality passport-sized (45mm x 35mm), colour photographs of yourself.
  • The visa fee. This cannot be refunded and you must normally pay it in the local currency of the country where you are applying.
  • Any relevant diplomas or educational certificates that you have.
  • A letter from the institution confirming that you have been accepted on a course of study in the UK, and a statement of charges for the course.
  • Evidence of sponsorship (if appropriate).
  • Bank statements, payslips or other evidence to show that you can pay for your course of studies and living expenses in the UK.
  • If you are being privately sponsored (for example, by a relative in the UK) a letter from your sponsor giving details of how they will support you during your studies, and evidence that they can do so.

Interviews, if required, will normally be conducted in English or via a translator. However, the course is conducted in English and if this is not your first language then you may need to show a level of proficiency in order to be able to demonstrate that you can follow the course, for example, through an IELTS test. These are offered at centres throughout the World.

Attending Trials/Open days in the UK

If you are visiting the UK to attend a trial or open day at the Footballcv Academy and are not a visa-national, you will not normally be required to obtain a visa unless you intend to then remain in the UK until the start of the course. If this is the case you will need to obtain a six month prospective student visa before you leave home otherwise you will not be allowed to obtain a student visa from within the UK.

The following link shows the nationals of which countries require a visa to visit the UK:

www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk

This visa enquiry form can be used to determine whether you need to obtain a visa as well as providing details of the nearest visa section where you can make your application.
