Academy suffer defeat in local derby

FootballCV Reds suffered a heavy defeat against local Nene Park rivals Rushden & Diamonds, under the watchful eye of former Tottenham Hotspur fullback and current first team Manager Justin Edinburgh and Assistant Michael Stone. With a goal into injury time separating the teams earlier in the season most spectators were expecting an equally close encounter, this however was not to be the case.

With Rushden currently leading the Football Conference Youth Alliance Midland Division and through to the semi-final stage of the cup, for the Academy this was always going to be a tough fixture. This indeed proved to be as Diamonds went into the break with a three goal lead. Further goals in the second half gave them a 7 – 0 victory and the Academy their heaviest defeat in the Conference Youth Alliance.

The Reds must pick themselves up though, as on Monday 1st March 2010 they travel to Bromsgrove Rovers in the Central Reserve League Cup and a chance to put this defeat quickly behind them.
