Academy progress through in Central Reserve Cup

The Academy travelled to Zamaretto League side Bromsgrove Rovers on Monday night in the Central Conference League Cup, looking to progress through into the later stages of the competition.

With changes made to the starting line up from Friday’s game against Rushden, it was the Academy who started the brighter and took the lead. On 15 minutes as the ball was played into the Bromsgrove area, Liam Elton-Petts hit a 15 yard left foot volley that flew into the home goal. Elton-Petts was to prove a constant thorn in Bromsgrove’s side all evening and it was he who double the lead on 30 minutes. Beating two players on his way into the box he coolly finished into the far right hand corner giving FootballCV Reds a 2 – 0 lead going into the break.

The second half continued in the same vain as the first, as a foul on Gerardo Cozzolino gave Sam Irwin the opportunity to curl his freekick over the wall to give the Reds a 3 – 0 lead on 55 minutes. Cozzolino then put Elton-Petts clear to complete his hat-trick, only to see his shot cannon off the home keepers legs, but into the path of Oscar Oku who finished off the rebound, giving the final score a 4 – 0 look.

FootballCV Reds will now wait to find out their next opposition in the cup, but will now turn their attention to the Conference Reserve League on Friday 5th March 2010, as they entertain Worcester City at Nene Park with a 1.30pm kick off.
