FootballCV Football Academy | About The FootballCV Reds

FootballCV Reds is the club name of the FootballCV Academy, originally known as FCV Reds the Academy reverted to their current name in July 2009. The Reds which play their home fixtures at Nene Park (home of the FootballCV Academy) in Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire held their first ever match on Wednesday 5th September 2007.

The friendly fixture which saw the TNEC visit Nene Park was officiated by former English Premiership referee Dermot Gallagher. A Ryan Reid goal would go down in history as the first for FootballCV Reds, but this wasn’t enough as an equaliser from the TNEC saw the match finish 1 – 1.

During the inaugural season of 2007 – 2008, FootballCV Reds entered into the Football Conference Youth League Midland Division. Hitchin Town would provide the opposition for their first ever competitive fixture on Wednesday 19th September 2007. Unfortunately goals from Ross Crawford and Paul Tocco were to no avail as three from Hitchin saw them leave with the points. It wouldn’t take long though for the Reds to claim three of their own, as the following league fixture, away to Oxford United would prove a different outcome. A David Devyne brace was backed up by an Alistair Wiltshire strike and although Oxford did pull a goal back, FootballCV Reds would leave the happier of the two sides. The season saw the Reds finish 9th in the Midland Division with a couple of points separating them and the top half. FootballCV Reds received a tough draw in the Football Conference Youth Cup with a trip to FC United of Manchester. FC United who were flying high in their respective division would progress through to the next round, two goals from corners would prove the difference on the day.

As well as entering into the Football Conference Youth League for the season of 2008 – 2009, FootballCV Reds would also enter into the Central Conference Reserve League, Northamptonshire County U18’s Cup, English Colleges U18’s Cup and the prestigious FA Youth Cup. The FA Youth Cup would prove in the early stages very successful, with S & L Corby visiting Nene Park on Thursday 25th September 2008 for the Academies first every venture in the competition. An Ashley Civil goal gave the Reds the advantage, but this was pegged back 5 minutes from time. Alistair Wiltshire would though prove the hero on the night as his winner in extra time sent FootballCV Reds though to the second qualifying round. Further victories away to Wellingborough Town and at home to Cogenhoe United saw the Academy progress to the first round proper and a trip to Blue Square North side Solihull Moors. This proved a step too far as two goals on the night for Solihull gave them victory and their name in the hat for the next round.

The Conference Youth League like the season of previous would see FootballCV Reds start with a 3 – 2 defeat at home, this time against Abingdon. Although the campaign would see the Reds take points from eventual champions Birmingham City at home and finish with one of the strongest defensive records in the league, they would again finish 9th in the league. In the Conference League Cup two goals from Cal Cathline-Gott at home to Hitchin was not enough as a 4 – 2 defeat ended the Reds interest for the season.

The Central Conference Reserve League would see the Academy tested against Stafford, Worcester and eventual Blue Square Premier Champions Burton Albion. It was Burton who provided the opposition for FootballCV Red’s first ever fixture in the competition. Their side on the day including former £3 million pound forward Lee Morris, Marc Edworthy who appeared in the English Premiership the previous season and then current manager and former England international Nigel Clough. The competition would prove beneficial for the development of the players at the Academy and throughout the year saw major improvements with the Reds finishing in the bottom half of the league.

This season of 2009 – 2010 has again seen the Academy enter into the re-named Football Conference Alliance, Central Conference Reserve League, Northamptonshire County U18’s Cup, English Colleges U18’s Cup and FA Youth Cup.
